Hannah and her Sisters (1986)

This is my favorite Woody Allen movie after Annie Hall. Not only does it take place in New York, but it features one of my favorite actors [Dianne Wiest]. I would also argue that this is Michael Caine's second-best movie after Muppet Christmas Carol.

I also concluded that Woody Allen's character Mickey Sachs is my favorite role that he plays. I totally can identify with a hypochondriac who only feels better when he watches Duck Soup.

Love and Death (1975)

Besides Bananas, I am not much of a fan of the Slapstick Woody Allen movies. Yes, we can tell you like Russian novels. Yes, we can tell that you like Ingmar Bergman. Yes, we can also tell that you still hate women. There were just too many jokes about breasts and pedophilia in this. Oh well.

Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

Wait, I have a strange sensation that I've already seen this movie, but with better characters and a more suspenseful story. A murder in New York takes place and voyeurs and snoops solve the crime, and the crime brings the couple closer together? And the villain resembles Raymond Burr. What movie is this? Okay, I'm using a technique called "sarcasm" to relay my disappointment and simultaneous amusement with this Woody Allen movie. Yes, it's great that Woody likes movies so much and that he makes his own movies as an homage to past ones [Rear Window in this case], but really -- at some point maybe you don't actually have a super awesome idea for a movie. Maybe don't make a movie for one year. It's totally okay.

While I thought Rear Window was a better movie, Manhattan Murder Mystery was pretty fun. Its cast features the First Lady of Cinema, Angelica Houston, Alan Alda [feminist], Aida Tuturro and Jerry Adler [both of Sopranos fame]. Also, the last scene of the movie mirrors [get it?] the mirror scene from The Lady from Shanghai. People shoot each other amidst mirrors, and the mirrors reflect scenes from The Lady from Shanghai because it is playing in the movie theater where the shooting is taking place. Rad!

Annie Hall (1977)

Anyway, there isn't much to say about Annie Hall except that it is one of my favorite movies and it's awesome. I wouldn't write about it except that it acts as 50% of the total movies I've watched in this town. I'm so ashamed. Things are busy, though, you know?

It is always a good idea to watch movies about the east coast when you live on a coast where the only cultural advantage is to make a right turn on red.

Also:
This is where we watched Annie Hall. Our house has 7 rooms, but we use this one for everything, including movie watching and sleep and fashion shows.

Here is a fashion show about movies.

Match Point (2005)

As much as it pains me to begin my blog by reviewing Match Point, that's just how it worked out. It is the first movie I watched today, and today is the day, so whatever. As I was already warned by my kin and fellow moviegoers, Match Point was just not that great. I figured I'd give it a try, as I love that guy who made it, and I try almost all his movies. Even the oh-so-terrible Broadway Danny Rose that was filmed in my New Jersey neighborhood and featured my grandmother's pasta. No big deal.

So I gave it a try, and this is what I gleaned from the viewing: 1. Scarlet Johansen is not my favorite, and especially not in this movie. Any character who willingly says "I'm sexy, not beautiful" in an English pub just sucks. I hope I'm not setting the wrong tone for this blog by commencing with how much I disliked a lady character in a movie. Enough people hate ladies without me contributing, but that just gives you an idea of how annoyed I was by Nola Rice [S.J.]. 2. There are about a gagillion movies about rich British/American couples bunnin' that are better than this one, so bunnin' could not be it's saving grace. 3. Mainly, I just thought it was a mediocre movie with dumb characters. [Note my eloquent reviewing style.] It's pseudo-suspenseful soundtrack didn't make me anxious about impending doom, but just made me antsy. Movies like this should not be over 120 minutes, Woody. When I get to remake Match Point, it will look and sound more like Mario Tennis and will star James Cromwell and Isabella Rossellini.
