28 Days Later (2002)

Finally, I am watching some actual zombie movies! As part of our Halloween movie marathon, we watched this fine piece of British cinema. Even though Danny Boyle directed it, I really liked it. As you may imagine, I spend a fair amount of time thinking about the zombie apocalypse with my peers. The frequent consensus is that all of us would be too fat to run, and thus we would die or become zombies. I'm fine with that, because nothing is worth running to exhaustion, right? Plus, Carmel makes a good point that maybe it would be okay to be a zombie. 1. One would not know one was a zombie, and if one did, what would the big deal be? 2. Who wouldn't want to run around and eat all day? Eating is so fun.

Son of Rambow (2007)

Cute! For a person who really doesn't care for Rambo: First Blood [or at least the excerpt I could bear to watch], I pretty much liked this flick. It's basically an omage to Rambo, except starring better actors who are 20 years younger who never even heard of Vietnam. They're British blokes, too. My biggest complaint for this movie is plot related: How could two children of limited means get their hands on such a snazzy video camera?

I wish I had a British childhood where I was allowed to go outside by myself, or at least one where I had a best pal to make remakes of my favorite movies with. Instead of Sly movies, I would do the Great Escape [a picture that is actually good]. I guess I could've just done that in the dingy part of my basement by myself, playing Steve McQueen + Charles Bronson. I mean, Mike Myers plays all the roles himself . . .

In the Loop (2009)

Ahem, James Gandolfini is in a movie playing someone named General Miller (High Life). That is enough of a draw for me. It turns out this political satire is pretty dern funny, even though the C word is used way too much [that is to say, more than zero times]. I was laughing a lot during this movie in a theater with 4 other people who did not seem to really think it was funny.

Also, it turns out that the only place from which I know Mimi Kennedy [who did a great job as a bungling senator] is from Dharma and Greg. I hate myself.
